Are yous past any chance shooting RAW and trying to transfer that to the phone? Y'all need to shoot RAW+JPG or JPG, in your camera for it to transfer, or it will transfer but the embedded thumbnail jpg from the RAW file.

Thanks.  I'm shooting RAW+JPG.  Perhaps the problem is I'm having the RAW get to card 1 and the JPG get to bill of fare ii?

Aye!!! That was the result.  To transfer 42 MP photos (jpg only), you must set the playback memory card to be the one to which you are writing the JPG files.  So I have RAW recording to the UHS2 SD card in slot one,  JPG recording to the UHS1 SD card in slot 2, and playback ready to slot 2.  Now I can transfer 42MP files to my iPhone.

Why do you need such big file to your telephone? If you upload your photo to Facebook or Google, they will downsize it anyway.

When I have to get a raw onto the phone I use a carte reader like this one-

Information technology is USB-C/OTG for my S8+

I don't fool with wifi when transferring big files.

Yeah!!! That was the issue. To transfer 42 MP photos (jpg merely), you must set the playback retentivity card to exist the 1 to which you are writing the JPG files. So I have RAW recording to the UHS2 SD card in slot 1, JPG recording to the UHS1 SD bill of fare in slot 2, and playback prepare to slot ii. Now I can transfer 42MP files to my iPhone.

I don't have a A7R3 so I'thou not very knowledgeable virtually how the recording onto ii cards works, however I'k exist interested to know, if when shooting Raw+JPEG, are the JPEG images full res?

On my A7R2, when shooting Raw+JPEG, the JPEG'south would be a considerably smaller size than 42MP.

In fact to get the highest possible resolution of JPEG, it would be better to shoot in Extra Fine, and forego shooting in RAW all together.

Given the A7R3 has dual menu slots information technology may handle this differently and shooting in RAW+JPEG may produce a full 42MP JPEG file.

Would be appreciative of the confirmation of the in a higher place.

Cheers,

P.

P.S. The just style I'thousand enlightened of getting a RAW photos from photographic camera (once more using a A7R2) to iPhone is to use the USB camera connectedness cable and import directly to iOS Photos. Sony Play Memories does not support transfer of RAW files over WIFI.

I was nether the impression that 3rd apart iPhone menu readers need Apple certification to work with the native Photograph app. (I presume y'all are using that workflow, I'yard not aware of whatsoever other way to get RAW photos onto an iPhone. s there another style?) Card readers are usually more expensive considering of that, is this one certified? What sort of transfer speeds are y'all getting?

I concord it is much easier to just transfer from your SD card to the Photos app then it is automatically in your phone if you use iCloud. I save my files to iv,000 ppi non full rez to keep the file size someone sane.

Yep, they are, if and so desired.

On my A7R2, when shooting Raw+JPEG, the JPEG'due south would exist a considerably smaller size than 42MP.

Smaller file size because of compression, what else is the point of JPG? Only they are yet full size in terms of number of pixels (provided you specified full size in the menu).

In fact to get the highest possible resolution of JPEG, it would be better to shoot in Extra Fine, and forego shooting in RAW all together.

If you shoot raw, what is the bespeak of having a highest resolution JPG. (Side note: "extra fine" does not really amend resolution, information technology reduces the corporeality of compression, i.e. fewer JPG artifacts, but very little effect on actual resolution).

Many photographers do the opposite: shoot raw plus a small size JPG for quicker preview.

Given the A7R3 has dual card slots it may handle this differently and shooting in RAW+JPEG may produce a full 42MP JPEG file.

As does your A7rii besides

Works pretty well, simply remember in that location's going to be a time penalty notwithstanding you transfer. Likewise, watch the space on your phone.

I upload all my photos to my iPhone! Using the camera kit from Apple I'll unload all pictures to the iPhone then they are all synced automatically to my Mac. Then I can edit and sort on my iPhone or my Mac plus this eliminates the demand for a fill-in when out since they are stored on the iPhone the Mac and iCloud! This lets me edit raw or jpeg anywhere.

Go to the Apple tree website and search camera kit in that location's two different ones. One is fast and works with the iPad Pro the other is slower. It's simply a lighting to sd card reader.

So what I do is unload my sd card to my iPhone it transfers raw plus jpeg. You volition come across just the jpeg in the iPhone photos app unless your using a app that supports raw like Lightroom or VSCO. And then you can edit raw on the iPhone.

And so all the pictures will be in the photos app in the album chosen last import from at that place I delete the ones I don't want then sort them into whatsoever anthology they should get to or leave them and do it on the Mac.

What'due south actually cracking about this is any thing I edit or sort or delete or whatever is synced then when going to Mac it all looks exactly  similar my iPhone.

What's even better is once you upload to the iPhone information technology automatically goes to iCloud so you have a backup!

At present back at the Mac in the photos app I see the jpeg simply if you go into edit mode you lot tin switch to the raw. I promise this helps I'grand not the best at communicating :-/

I do this using the Apple SD card reader that plugs into either my iPad or my iPhone lightning port.

Then y'all tin can import the RAW file shots directly into Lightroom or Affinity - both handle raw files. I salvage my mail candy image files dorsum to the iCloud equally files rather than images.

This is just what I'm planning to do, then export files out of the Photo Library when back at my studio to free up iCloud infinite.

Non certain what you lot mean by "save as an Apple resident photo", is there some pace that would lose the RAW file data?

Re: How to transfer full 42 MP photos from A7r iii to phone?

Setting upwards to send loftier res photos to your phone or smart device:

On your camera

* Ready to record RAW & JPEG with RAW in Slot ane (bold you're making utilize of UHS-Two capability, otherwise information technology won't matter): Menu tab 1 (Quality/Prototype Size1) > page 1/14 > File Format = RAW & JPEG

* Set Playback Media to Slot 2: Playback tab > page iii/iii (Playback3) > Select PB Media = Slot 2

On your telephone, in PlayMemories

* Settings > Re-create Image Size = Original

Once you've washed that you'll be able to send full res photos from camera to telephone.

Re: How to transfer full 42 MP photos from A7r iii to phone?

This solution does not actually piece of work when using PlayMemories as a wireless remote / tether solution.

Does anyone know if there is a way to transfer anything more than 2MP images using PlayMemories (as a remote) to the A7rIII / A9?
